Since we got the farm I have wanted to milk SOMETHING. In fact it was my reason for getting goats and then lo and behold we fall in love with boers. Specifically a strictly meat breed. My friend Dan and I have been look up sheep dairying and it got me thinking why can’t I milk boers. I have tasted their milk its wonderful with a very sweet and creamy texture to it.

Sheep don’t give a lot of milk and its generally believed that the best thing you can do with sheep is to milk them once a day and let the lambs at them the rest of time. I am sure people will argue with me on it but is their any reason we can’t do that? I don’t think there is; so here goes. Rather than try and invest money in specific milk animals and depending on species probably other specific containment and feeding facilities I think I am just going to start barn renovation on the red barn and start working towards buying a milking machine for goats.

I figure this is a one year goal because getting a barn ready, buying equipment, and training the goats will take a bit of time. On that note does anybody have any good goat cheese recipes? :-)

Titan

This is 79 BWR Titon he came to us from Blystone’s Windy Ridge farm.   He is one of our intended new herd sires especially for paint goats.  Obviously this is a baby pic  Titon was only 4 months old when it was taken.  Now he is almost 6 months and a bit bigger but still has quite a ways to go.   Later on we will be adding Titon’s pedigree.
